Václav Havel Airport in Prague is gradually cancelling flights to Israel due to escalating military conflict between Israel and Iran, the airport announced Thursday on social media platform X.

“Due to the unfavorable political situation, air links with Israel are gradually being cancelled,” the airport said.

The airport advised passengers to check flight status updates on its website and contact their carriers as needed.

Flights from Prague operate directly to Tel Aviv, Israel’s second-largest city. According to the airport’s website, four flights were scheduled to depart for Tel Aviv on Friday; one had already been canceled by morning. All five expected arrivals from Tel Aviv to Prague have also been cancelled.

The cancellations come amid a sharp escalation in hostilities. The Israeli military said it launched more than 200 aircraft overnight, striking about 100 targets in Iran with over 330 munitions. Iran responded by sending more than 100 drones toward Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the strikes targeted Iranian nuclear scientists, the Natanz nuclear facility, and the country’s ballistic missile program.

The Israeli assault is considered the largest on Iran since the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s.

Iran’s retaliatory drones were expected to reach Israeli airspace within hours, according to Israeli military sources.

Foreign ministry responds

Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský expressed understanding for Israel’s military strike on Iran, citing security concerns over Iran’s nuclear ambitions and its aggressive stance toward Israel.

Speaking at the Globsec conference in Prague, he noted Iran’s repeated violations of international obligations and its ties to groups like Hamas and Hezbollah.

“Iran has long failed to meet its obligations to the international community, building up its nuclear program. At the same time, it has rhetoric aimed at destroying the State of Israel, twice carrying out large-scale ballistic and drone attacks against Israel in the past year and a half,” Lipavský said.

The Israeli military said the strike targeted nuclear scientists, missile facilities, and key military leaders. Lipavský confirmed increased travel warnings for Iran, though no Czech diplomats were currently at risk.

The Foreign Ministry also reported that Jordan temporarily closed its airspace and urged travelers to follow local media and embassy guidance.
